Introducing our new Volunteers!

We were very excited to meet our first set of European Solidarity Corps volunteers recently. Georgia and Roscoe, who were successful in getting places on our ELSE Project in Bulgaria, came to our offices in London for a Training Day this week. The day covered a number of topics including logistical arrangements, what to expect when living and volunteering abroad, and practical elements such as budgeting and language support.

Both volunteers are looking forward to heading out to Bulgaria next month, where they will spent 3.5 months volunteering with our partners Education 21st Century Foundation. During their time in Bulgaria, the volunteers will help the organisation plan and deliver projects to support young people in Bulgaria. This will include working with their network of schools in Sofia to help young people with English language learning through fun and informal sessions.

At the end of the session, Roscoe, who has traveled extensively but not had the opportunity to live for an extended period of time abroad, said that he was "Excited, prepared and confident." For Georgia, the volunteering was the perfect way to spend some of her gap year before going to University next year. The fact that the programme is fully funded was a big bonus, as it meant that financing the project was not a barrier to attending.

Georgia and Roscoe will be heading out to Sofia in early September - watch this space for updates on how they're getting on in Bulgaria!
